Argon laser medical data

There is no published data on the use of the weak Lasetron argon laser for general hair removal. The only articles available discuss more powerful lasers available since then, and only on their use in treating ingrown eyelashes (trichiasis and distichiasis). There are no published studies as of this writing on the use of argon lasers for other types of hair removal.

Published medical data (eyelashes only)

Berry (1979): 8 cases of ingrown eyelashes had satisfactory results at 6 months.

Awan (1986): 11 cases of ingrown eyelashes had satisfactory results 4 to 9 months later.

Bartley (1987): Compares electrolysis, cryogenic freezing and argon laser in treatment of lashes on rabbits.

Malthieu (1987): A brief paper in French.

Campbell (1990): Reports 80% success in 15 eyelids.

Sharif (1991): Reports 68% success with one treatment on 28 lids. The rest needed 3-4 treatments.

Gossman (1992): Based on rabbit tests, he determines argon to be preferable to CO2 lasers for ingrown eyelashes. See also the comment on this article at Gossman (1992)

Gossman (1992): 60 cases of ingrown eyelashes were treated successfully and with minimal complications.

Huneke (1992): 78 patients with ingrown eyelashes had satisfactory results.

Ladas (1993): Multiple treatments on 92 eyes had a 93% long-term success rate.

Yung (1994): 8 eyelids had no recurrence at 3 months. With histological analysis.

Oshry (1994): Reports 80% success in 70 eyelashes on 17 patients.

Elder (1996): Reports 76% to 93% success in eliminating regrowth per ingrown eyelash treated.

Elder (1997): A good article on eyelash physiology and its relevance to laser hair removal and electrolysis.

Unlu (2000): 36 lids had 89% success an average of about 10 months after mulitple treatments.

Basar (2000): 60 lids had 75% success an average of 6 months after one treatment , with another 12% responding to multiple treatments.
