On October 31, 2000 Asclepion acquired a strategic share in distributor U.S. Medical.

Asclepion had a 10.6% share in the Denver, Colorado-based company as well as s seat on their Board of Directors. Warrants were also granted to Asclepion for an additional 80,000 shares. Both parties agreed not to disclose the financial terms of the transaction. Germany-based AESCULAP-MEDITEC has been developing, manufacturing and marketing medical laser systems since the late 1970's. Recently AESCULAP-MEDITEC GmbH changed its name and legal status to Asclepion-Meditec AG.

From a reader in May 2005:

US Medical filed for bankruptcy a few years ago and is no longer in business. Asclepion-Meditec was purchased by Carl-Zeiss of Germany and the new company was called Carl Zeiss Meditec AG.

Zeiss had purchased Asclepion primarily for their Ophthalmic technologies, so the spun off the Aesthetic division and sold it to the Italian company El.En. Group. and renamed Asclepion Laser Technologies. Asclepion still operates from the same location in Jena Germany and many of the same employees are still with them.

For Hair removal they currently still manufacture the MedioStar and RubyStar, although the RubyStar is primarily marketed for Tattoo and pigmented lesion removal.
