Skin Sense Hair Removal Salon

Kathy Orender is a practitioner of "transcutaneous" hair removal in Wichita, Kansas. She is also been listed as a distributor of the "transcutaneous electrolysis" device made by Rejuvenu (formerly known as International Hair Removal Systems).

Skin Sense should be avoided for hair removal. They sell an unproven "transcutaneous" method.

Treatment with the Rejuvenu or IHRS devices such as Super-Phaser Gold should be avoided by all consumers. There is no published data showing it can remove hair permanently.

Claiming these devices are permanent is a violation of federal regulations. Reputable people usually do not associate themselves with these devices.

2002 update: I am pleased to announce I have helped a consumer get $2700 back from one of these quacks. If you have been ripped off by Skin Sense, I will be happy to assist you in getting your money back.

Kathy Orender is the ringleader, and the other women are her accomplices. She probably sold the device to them as franchises with promises of lots of money and permanent hair removal for their consumers.

Quack claims

The Wichita Hi-Liter shopping circular had this report:

Skin Sense: New Patch Means Fewer Trips For Permanent Hair Removal

Creating less need for a business is not necessarily a sound goal for a business owner, but that is exactly what Kathy Orender has done with her salon, Skin Sense. Transdermolysisü is the system that Kathy uses to permanently remove unwanted hair. Recently, she added new equipment that significantly reduces the time required for the process. That means clients get the results they're looking for in fewer and shorter visits. Transdermolysis works by gently channeling galvanic current to unwanted hair through a special gel that is applied to the skin. The current chemically changes the water and salt in the hair follicle to sodium hydroxide which destroys the root. "Our clients love Transdermolysis because it's safe, effective and relaxing," Kathy says. "It destroys the hair follicle without the pain and possible scarring of a needle, which is often part of other hair removal techniques." For the past three years, Kathy has been researching advances in the field and recently upgraded to a new, more efficient Transdermolysis machine. Previously, Skin Sense technicians were limited to using a small probe about the size of a cotton swab to deliver the galvanic current. The new machine covers a much larger area by use of a patch. What this means to clients is less time at Skin Sense and lower costs for large areas. With the old method, a client would need to come in at least twice a week over a period of time to remove all of the hair in a particular area. Now they need come in only once every 10 to14 days. A bikini line that previously required 2 1/2-hour treatments now takes 30 minutes. "The thought of less revenue per client would probably panic most salon owners but to me it just translates into opportunity," Kathy says, "It means that more people can afford the process and fits well with my emphasis on bringing the best possible products and services to my customers." When Kathy started Skin Sense, she tested all methods of hair removal on herself before deciding which one to offer to the public. "I could provide any of the hair removal processes that are out there but I want to stick with the best and safest. We've seen exceptional results with Transdermolysis and the newest method makes it even more convenient." She adds that Transdermolysis is one of only two methods of permanent hair removal recognized by the Food and Drug Administration that are available in Wichita. Skin Sense is also a full-line retailer of Arbonne skin and health care products and now provides facials. Located at 21st and Woodlawn in Oxford Square, Skin Sense is open Monday-Friday, 9-9, and Saturday, 9-5. "Our evening hours make it very convenient for men and women who can't come in during the day because they work," Kathy says. The phone number is 687-0400 and appointments are required. Free consultation, free skin analysis, and a free test patch are offered. "Transdermolysis is ideal for all skin and hair types," Kathy says.
