Consulting Studio is one of several Nebraska-based
businesses which sell hair transplants, wigs, hair removal devices
and herbal "breast enhancers." They have been listed
as distributors of a "transcutaneous electrolysis"
system manufactured by International Hair Removal Systems (now
called
Rejuvenu).
This device is marketed under the name SuperPhaser Gold.
Consulting Studio (a.k.a. Image
One Aesthetics) were once distributors for a "transcutaneous
electrolysis" device called SuperPhaser Gold, which should
be avoided.
On 2 April 2001, FDA told Rejuvenu they
were in
violation
of federal law in making claims of painless and permanent
hair removal using transcutaneous patches. This was their second
such warning. Reputable companies are usually not associated
with these products.

False and misleading claims
Echoing claims on their
Image One website, the
Consulting Studio website makes the following
false and misleading claims (followed by my comment in
bold):
The Consulting Studio
Index claims:
"The Super-Phaser Gold is the
#1 non-invasive electrolysis method preferred by dermatologists
and electrologists world wide."
No dermatologists have gone
on record endorsing Super-Phaser Gold at the time of this
writing.
"Only 2 types of equipment have
every been cleared by the F.D.A. for permanent hair removal:
needle electrolysis and the non-invasive galvanic electrology
like the Super-Phaser Gold. We guarantee it is the fastest,
most affordable permanent hair removal treatment in the world
market place today."
The patches and cotton swabs
used by Super-Phaser Gold have not been cleared by FDA as
permanent hair removal.
The Consulting Studio
Overview states"
The SuperPhaser Gold is a"FDA
quality Class I medical device for permanent hair removal."
FDA has not evaluated claims
made by SuperPhaser Gold regarding their transcutaneous
electrolysis methods. FDA does not allow devices using patches
or cotton swabs to make claims of permanent hair removal.
The SuperPhaser Gold is "only
available by authorized distributor" and costs "only
$6,895.00."
Hair removal scams like this have
discovered that if the price is astronomical, consumers
assume it must work. You could get the components for one
of these devices for about $100. There are devices on the
market that costs $30 that has been proven to be permanent.
The Consulting Studio
Features page says"
The SuperPhaser Gold achieves "Permanence
equal to needle electrolysis."
There have been no published
clinical studies showing that devices like the SuperPhaser
Gold can achieve permanent hair removal.
The Consulting Studio
Message from SuperPhaser "Medical Director"
Mark H. Chandler
To effectively reach the millions of
people seeking permanent hair removal with a cost effective
and permanent solution, International Hair Removal Systems
has recently introduced the Super Phaser Gold no-needle electrolysis
system. Now it is possible to remove unwanted hair without
side effects or pain, and still achieve permanent results.
Since the late 1980's, Chandler
has been making the same claims for these types of "transcutaneous
electrolysis" devices. In that time, the manufacturers
and distributors have had a dozen names and at least as
many different device names. Even Chandler has assumed a
new name.
Only two types of equipment have ever
been cleared by the FDA for permanent hair removal -- needle
electrolysis and non-invasive galvanic electrology like the
Super Phaser Gold. Other forms of hair removal on the market,
such as laser, diffuse light, and radio frequency therapies
have not shown enough evidence of follicle root destruction
to be entitled to claim permanent hair removal.
On July 20, 1999, the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that there has
been no clearance for these "transdermal electrolysis"
devices to make claims of permanent and/or painless hair
removal. There is no published clinical data showing these
devices can cause permanent hair removal or reduction.
